Square Foot Gardening- Going and Growing
.
Our students are all involved in a hands-on gardening program called Square Foot Gardening. Thanks to the labor of Mr. Reuben Comstock, the school has six beautiful raised planting boxes. Each student in grades one through eight was given their own square foot of gardening space to plant, water, weed, and harvest. Students in PreK and Kindergareten are working on community gardening. We have planted everything from radishes and lima beans to strawberries and cantaloupe. Students have studied seed germination, insects (good and bad) and the time it will take the various crops to be ready to harvest. Those who planted radishes have already enjoyed their  harvest, while those who planted watermelon will be waiting another month. Thank you, Mrs. Dana West and Master Gardening students for helping this project become a reality for our students. (For the most current pictures of the gardens, follow us on Facebook at West Coast Christian Academy.)
